The RV led a pursuit westbound on I-30 through Rockwall, Dallas, Grand Prairie and into Arlington. Spike strips were laid in front of the RV in Rockwall, Dallas County and Grand Prairie, and the RV was driving slowly on its rims, causing lots of sparks.

The RV eventually became disabled across all three lanes of traffic on I-30 near Cooper Street about 4:30 a.m., Cook said.

As an officer approached the vehicle, which was heavily smoking, he saw the door open and the man let the two children go, Cook said. As the officer grabbed them, he heard a gunshot from the vehicle, which then burst into flames.

The suspect is dead.
