Lightning Struck SWA Jet In San Antonio Sunday
Lightning struck a Southwest Airlines plane at the San Antonio International Airport on Sunday, sending a nearby airline worker to the hospital, the company said.
The employee, a male Southwest Airlines Ramp Agent who was not named, was taken to an area hospital as a precaution but is in “good condition,” according to a news release issued Sunday.
The release explained that the agent was working near an aircraft when it experienced the lightning strike. The man reportedly “felt the effects from the strike,” was immediately examined by local emergency personnel and is still under observation at the hospital.
The lightning strike was the second misfortune to befall the airport this weekend, as an American Airlines plane veered off the runway and into the grass and mud Saturday, shutting down the airport’s only active commercial runway for nearly four hours. No one was injured in that incident, though airport officials were forced to open a second runway that had been closed for previously-scheduled repairs.
