One of the (many) interrogation techniques that police detectives use is the claim of omniscience and omnipotence. "I know everything," a detective literally said to a subject repeatedly over twelve hours of interrogation ("Then why are you interrogating me?" is an obvious (but not to the cop) reaction.). The claim of omniscience is a game. It is intended to induce submission and to produce confession.
Experts in other fields use the claim of omniscience.
Freud initially thought that his patients were relating more or less factual stories of sexual mistreatment, and that the sexual abuse was responsible for many of his patients' neuroses and other mental health problems. Within a few years Freud abandoned his theory, concluding that the memories of sexual abuse were in fact imaginary fantasies.
