Major Waco Accident Closed SB I-35 For Hours Saturday

Crews are working to clear a major accident that has shut down the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 at Waco Drive.

Waco police responded to the accident between Waco Drive and the Brazos River near the exit to the Waco Convention Center near mile marker 335 around 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening.

Waco Fire Battalion Chief Robert Beechner said the accident involved two tractor trailers and a SUV. Crews said the SUV was pinned underneath one of the semis.

There were six passengers inside the SUV. The driver and the front passenger had to be pulled from the wreckage. The four other passengers were able to get out.

Officials said the driver and the front passenger were transported to the hospital.
