Yesterday in the only serious post of the day I urged this view of the Putinism/Trumpism:

The Russians have told Trump of various ways he can help them divide and conquer the U.S. "It's race, stupid" is the umbrella for virtually all. Everytime Trump says or does something, tweets something, gives a speech, if we ask ourselves the question "What's in it for the Russians?" in many cases the scales will fall from our eyes. Then, Trump's seeming out-of-nowhere attacks on NFL players, his suggestion that fans boycott games, his White House disinvite of NBA champion Golden State, his praise of NASCAR and his invite to NHL champs Pittsburgh--it's all about race.

This morning there are three articles of the same thinking:

In an 11-hour period beginning at 7:19 a.m. and ending at 6:46 p.m. Saturday, the President of the United States ripped off 18 -- yes, 18! -- tweets dealing with the dire situation in Puerto Rico following the devastation wrought by Hurricane Maria.
...
Trump, already worried about the perception that he and his administration have responded inadequately to the situation, responded to Yulin Cruz the only way he knows how: Viciously.
...
What Trump is doing -- in his attacks on Yulin Cruz and the media -- is trying to divide the country as a way to deflect blame for his administration's performance.

Trump's willingness to divide, to turn every situation in which he is questioned or criticized into an "us" vs "them" is well documented by now...his deliberate decision to pick a fight with (mostly black) NFL players over the national anthem illustrate that same perpetual need to divide.
...
This is Trumpism.

I suggested fighting fire with fire:

Since "war" is being waged by Putin-Trump-Bannon, in my opinion, we need to go total: direct and frontal, indirect guerilla, financial, legal, we must war daily, we must war personally, we must go after Trump's family, particularly Ivanka, we must ruin Russia's economy, destroy Trump's businesses, we must go after Trump supporters, we must lie, be scurrilous, we must hate. We must overwhelm Putin-Trump from so many different directions simultaneously that it is impossible to counter-punch. We must launch the real-life equivalent of a DoS attack.

According to two reports that is exactly what Trump has done against the DPRK:

The United States wants to so impress North Korea with our military power and resolve – and so choke off North Korea’s revenue and assistance from outside powers – that it overwhelms North Korea’s calculus regarding the risks of continuing on its course and its ability to do so.

Trump’s directive, a senior administration official said, also included instructions to diplomats and officials to bring up North Korea in virtually every conversation with foreign interlocutors and urge them to sever all ties with Pyongyang. Those conversations have had significant success, particularly in recent weeks as North Korea has tested another nuclear weapon and ballistic missiles, officials said.

So pervasive is the diplomatic campaign that some governments have found themselves scrambling to find any ties with North Korea. When Vice President Pence called on one country to break relations during a recent overseas visit, officials there reminded him that they never had relations with Pyongyang. Pence then told them, to their own surprise, that they had $2 million in trade with North Korea. Foreign officials, who asked that their country not be identified, described the exchange.
...
We have lines of communications to Pyongyang. We’re not in a dark situation, a blackout. We have a couple, three, channels open. . . . We can talk to them; we do talk to them.”

Instead, they tried to keep the focus on Trump’s upcoming Asia visit, which Xi promised would be a “special, wonderful and successful” event.

"Overwhelming," "pervasive," relentless ("every conversation"), multi-directional. That is the "war" Trump is waging, that is the "war" that must be waged against him domestically.
