According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the fire started around 2:00 AM on the Shell Enchilada Platform located 100 miles south of Vermillion Bay.

A man, age 54, suffered flash burns, and another had a sprained wrist and a concussion. Both men were medevaced to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

All 46-crew members have now been evacuated from the platform.
