We Lost

Song Binbin (Chinese: 宋彬彬; pinyin: Sòng Bīnbīn; born 1949), also known as Song Yaowu (Chinese: 宋要武), was a senior leader in the Chinese Red Guards during the Cultural Revolution when she gained notoriety after Chinese newspapers incorrectly rumored her to have le a student revolt resulting in the killing of Bian Zhongyun, the first teacher killed during the Revolution, which resulted in recognition from Mao Zedong. She did not participate in the killing of the principal and actually tried to save him. Binbin has come out and apologized on behalf of the Red Guards even though she did not kill anyone.

Excuse me?

I felt that old angry burn in my stomach when I read that,, Song Binbin's current Wikipedia entry:

"...incorrectly rumored her to have le a student revolt resulting in the killing of Bian Zhongyun..." No, that is precisely correct. Although Song did not strike a blow she was the leader of the Red Guards at the school and the Red Guards murdered Teacher Bian. Song was one of three Red Guard leaders who notified the Mayor of Beijing that Bian was dead.

"She did not participate in the killing of the principal and actually tried to save him." It is a lie that Song tried to save Bian and Bian was a woman not a "him." For Godssake.

If it makes it into Wikipedia then that's the way it happened. History has been re-written by the Red Guards. We lost. Piers, I need that now.
