90% Chance Of Tropical Storm Development In Gulf

The National Hurricane Center is keeping a close eye on a disturbance in the Caribbean Sea that will travel slowly into the Gulf of Mexico early this week.

The NHC said the disturbance has a 90 percent chance of developing into a named tropical system. Current observations and satellite data have indicated that a broad low pressure area is centered near the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula.

An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate this system Monday.

While the storm will enter the Gulf of Mexico, meteorologist Kaiti Blake said the likelihood the system has a direct impact on San Antonio is slim. The current forecast calls for sunny, hot conditions to continue unabated through the rest of the week.
